From Old French strategie < Ancient Greek στρατηγία (stratēgia, “office of general, command, generalship”) < στρατηγός (stratēgos, “the leader or commander of an army, a general”) < στρατός (stratos, “army”) + ἄγω (ago, “I lead, I conduct”).
